From the very beginning of the colonization of Australia, the treatment of Aborigine people was atrocious, but the end of the 19th century the codification of that treatment upticked sharply in an attempt to flat out remove the Aborigine people via cultural erasure and breeding, so when Molly Craig entered the world around 1915 the deck was heavily stacked against her.
After 14 year old Molly, and her sister and cousin, are all ripped away from their mothers' arms and transported almost 1,000 miles away to the other side of the country to be "re-educated and cared for" by white people, Molly makes one of the most epic decisions ever seen in Australia: She takes her sister and cousin, and they run away from the horrors of the camp to go back home...ON FOOT!
Her story is absolutely remarkable and it's one you certainly don't want to miss!

We've talked a lot about Marsha P. Johnson but today we're finally circling around to her other half - her best friend and co-founder of STAR House - Sylvia Rivera!
Orphaned at a young age and suffering much abuse at the hands of her caretakers, Sylvia left home at eleven years old and never looked back. She found a new home with the drag queens of 42nd Street who took her in, dubbed her Sylvia, and taught her how to survive the streets.
Her activist heart was in action long before the Stonewall Riots, and she was supposedly there that night with Marsha, and said threw the second molotov cocktail that kicked off the riots!
Much of her story mimics Marsha's - being rejected by the greater Gay Liberation movement and shuffled to the sidelines - even denied the right to march in the first pride parade (thought her and Marsha did anyway!), but Sylvia remained a fighter for most of her life and left behind some epic stories in her wake. Mademoiselle Chevalier d'Éon is a contentious figure among modern historians. For the first 40 years of her life she lives as a man, during which time she works as a spy for the French Government, serves in the military, negotiates the Treaty of Paris (ending the Seven Years War with Britain), and blackmails the King of France to avoid imprisonment. When you google the term "trans activist" you'll find Raquel Willis is at the top of your results. Empowered & encouraged by her loving and supportive family, even in the wake of her father's passing, Raquel was lit up by the activist flame as Black Lives Matter took center stage in the US, but frustrated by the lack of support for transgender people within the movement - Raquel was determined to shift her activist focus specifically to her own trans community. When she was catapulted to the stage at the inaugural Women's March in DC (where her mic was cut off, by the way!) she quickly rose to the forefront in the fight for equal rights that our trans sisters face everyday. Oh yeah, and she's only 33!

BYSK is once again kicking off PRIDE month with one of our previously aired, but absolutely ESSENTIAL PRIDE Broads - MARSHA "Pay It No Mind" JOHNSON!
Marsha was one of the figureheads in the fight for LGBTQ rights and a true legend. She was (allegedly) at the Stonewall Inn on the night the riots broke out, kicking off the LGBTQ revolution. She also helped organize the first Pride Parade and founded STAR house, a home for abandoned or homeless LGBT children and young adults to keep them off the streets (her story inspired the hit show “Pose” on FX!).
She always wore her flower crowns, but her life was far from glamorous. From life on the streets and sleeping under flower tables, to jail cells, to fighting for drag queen respect in the gay community, and eventually her untimely and tragic death, Marsha was a Queen who deeply understood you only have one life, and you've got to live it to it's fullest, brightest and most beautiful.

Sibyl Ludington, the oldest of 12 kids, may have only been 16 years old, but she knew exactly what to do when British soldiers burned her neighboring town to the ground: She Paul Revere'd it! Jumping on her horse, Sibyl rides over 40 miles across the countryside to awaken the militia, calling to arms the troops for what would be the Battle of Ridgefield.

Ancient Greece in the 4th Century BCE was pretty tough for women. Women weren't allowed to practice Midwifery legally, and it was inappropriate for male Doctors to see female patients, so women and babies are dying in childbirth in record numbers and Agnodice is SICK OF IT!
She bucks the law, deceives the teachers at med school by dressing as a man, and she becomes a gynecologist. When her practice begins to blossom, her male competition accuse her of committing the worst crime a Doctor at the time could commit: Seducing her female patients.
